Choosing a SIL provider in the Hunter

Every Supported Independent Living provider will tell you they care. The hard part is knowing what to look for underneath that. Here is what separates a home that holds from a placement that unsettles, and the questions worth asking before you commit.

Does the team actually stay?

Consistency is what makes a house feel like a home, and it is the thing most providers cannot deliver. Ask how long support workers stay, whether the same faces are there week to week, and what the roster looks like across a year. We hire slowly and keep our people, because progress only sticks when the people do not keep changing.

Is leadership actually in the home?

A name on an org chart is not the same as someone in the house. Ask who is physically present and how often. Our Program Managers visit regularly and our Team Leaders work onsite four days a week, close to each person's goals and day-to-day support.

Do they match, or fill vacancies?

A placement made to fill a bed unsettles the whole house. Ask how a provider decides who moves in, and whether they look at who already lives there. We build smaller households of up to three people and match carefully, so a place settles rather than unsettles.

Will they tell you the truth?

The most useful thing a provider can do is be honest about whether a home is likely to work, before anyone commits. Ask what happens if it is not the right fit. We give an honest read of suitability up front, even when the answer is no.

If people knew what you were doing, you would have hundreds of participants coming in.
